1770 Glasgow Single Malt 2019 Release

The Glasgow Distillery Company

The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded at the tail end of 2012, building the first new single malt whisky distillery in Scotland’s greatest city since 1902 (if you don’t count Kinclaith, which was part of the Strathclyde grain complex). The Glasgow Distillery Company is named after the original Glasgow Distillery, which was founded in 1770 in Dundashill but closed at the beginning of the 20th century. The first spirit was produced at Glasgow Distillery in early 2015.

Glasgow Distillery is located in Glasgow’s Southside and after a significant inward investment in 2018 is currently equipped with four copper pot stills and a gin still, giving a production capacity of around 500,000 litres per annum. The company makes both gin and vodka as well as its own peated and unpeated single malt whisky.

Glasgow Distillery released their 1770 Inaugural Release single malt whisky in March 2018, selling out almost immediately. Further releases of 1770 have followed - at the time of writing Glasgow Distillery’s single malt whisky core range consists of three versions of 1770 single malt with the (unpeated) 1770 Original sitting alongside peated and triple-distilled editions.

As well as their distilling operations, which encompass Makar Gin and G52 Botanical vodka, the Glasgow Distillery Company also works as a blender and bottler, producing Banditti Club Spiced Rum and Malt Riot Blended Malt, the latter of which also includes some of their own distillate. The company also bottle a range of high-end ‘mystery’ Speyside single malt whiskies under their Prometheus label, garnering several high end awards at international spirit competitions.
