Elixir Distillers is the new name for the company formerly known as Speciality Drinks Limited, the bottling arm of a famous London whisky retailer. Elixir Distillers are an independent bottler of single malt Scotch whisky and have some of their own proprietary brands.

The company’s main range of whisky is The Single Malts of Scotland, a large and diverse range of single malt whiskies. The first Single Malts of Scotland bottling appeared in 2002, but releases began in earnest at the end of 2005, and since 2017, when Speciality Drinks became Elixir Distillers, there are now dozens of Single Malts of Scotland bottlings appearing each year.

The other side of the company’s business is their proprietary brands. Elixir Distillers’ rum, Black Tot, is a Navy rum which was originally a bottling of a large parcel of British Navy rum from ceramic flagons that had been sitting in bonded warehouses since the abolition of the daily ration.  As stocks of this rum are now low the brand has recently been relaunched as a blended rum in a similar style.

Elixir Distillers’ two proprietary whisky brands are both Islay whiskies. Port Askaig is a mystery single malt launched in 2009, with small batches at different ages; Elements of Islay, which first appeared in 2008, is a range of high strength single malt Islay whiskies packaged in 50cl apothecary bottles, anonymous but marked with an easily-decoded acronym and batch number.
