Berry Brothers & Rudd is primarily a wine merchant with a remarkable history stretching back to 1698. In addition, as far back as the 19th century the company was offering carefully selected whiskies to its customers - they were one of the earliest companies to do bespoke independent bottlings, and these rare beauties still occasionally turn up at auction.
Throughout the 20th century Berry's took further steps into whisky by bottling more single malts under their own label, and in 1923 Berry's created the Cutty Sark blend, which by the 1960s was the most popular blended Scotch whisky in the USA. After sporadic whisky releases throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Berry Bros increased the frequency and scope of their whisky offering around the turn of the century, building up a remarkable and broad range of excellent bottlings.
Today Berry Brothers & Rudd continue to release carefully selected single casks and small batches of single malt whisky and rum alongside in-house blended malts of high renown.
