Single Malt English Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 52%
Released in early 2023, the sixth edition of The Lakes distillery's award-winning Whiskymaker's Reserve has big shoes to fill after the success of the previous batches, the fourth of which was crowned World's Best Single Malt Whisky at the World Whisky Awards in 2022.
The idea of The Lakes' Whiskymaker's Reserve is to explore and evolve the distillery's sherry-driven signature style of English single malt whisky through an assemblage of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks with a smidgin of red wine cask-matured whisky to add a little pizzazz. The Lakes Whiskymaker's Reserve No.6 is bottled at 52% to ensure plentiful oomph.

Nose: Rich and aromatic with oriental spice, Marzipan with rose water, candied ginger and polished oak.
Palate: Rich and mellow with sun-dried Ajwa Dates, toasted teacake, and hints of gentle spice.
Unfortunately I missed the first two from Lakes Whiskymaker’s reserves whisky and by the time I had realised how good this whisky is the reserve No 1 had already become out of reach financially, I have though managed to buy2/3/4 at auction and because of the astronomical rise in awards and price I have managed to buy No 5 and 6. This can be interpreted in different ways but I live in the heart of Speyside and Highland region the home of whisky this comment is almost sacrilege as a Scot talking about English whisky to be truthful No 5 and six they are very palatable with plenty of viscosity and flavour as good as anything at this price, I actually prefer the No 6 over The Macallan 12 yr sherry cask any day of the week. High praise to The Lakes, if we achieve Independence I would move the boundary to encompass this distillery. My apologies to all the dyed in the wool true Scot out there but perhaps buy a bottle for your wife to taste (adding a little water first ) and secretly against all the odds secretly enjoy this nectar from somewhere within moment or so away from the border.

An exciting deep rich brown coloured liquid.
A compote of fruit together with dried grapes is lovely on the tongue.
Nicely sweetened syrup is evident too.
Invested in two bottles but will be ordering a third.
Great warming malt enjoyed by two. (One aka Pig)
I know I bought a cask strength whisky but was expecting a nice taste but the strength overpowered the flavor, I found it harsh, but I am not a whiskey conasur. I also bought the secret Orkney signatory cask strength and that was very nice.
