Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 50%

A superb single malt from closed Lowland distillery St Magdalene. Distilled in October 1982 and bottled by Douglas Laing for their highly regarded Old Malt Cask series in May 2008. Matured for 25 years in a refill butt and bottled at a robust 50% ABV, this release was produced from a single cask, yielding just 378 bottles.

St Magdalene, also known as Linlithgow, closed in 1983 and has since become one of Scotland’s most sought-after lost distilleries. Renowned for its distinctive combination of grassy Lowland freshness, waxy texture and subtle mineral character, mature examples such as this have become increasingly scarce.

As with many early Old Malt Cask releases, this whisky was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring, allowing the distillery character to shine through. Douglas Laing’s own tasting notes describe a fresh and lively nose with spice, oak and gristy malt, followed by a palate of honey, spices and barley, leading into a long, clean and dry finish.

A fine example of mature St Magdalene from one of independent bottling’s most respected series, and an increasingly difficult bottle to acquire from this revered closed distillery.
