Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 57.1%
Located on the North West of Islay, Port Askaig for many is the first place they see when arriving on the beautiful island.
Port Askaig 100 Proof has been aged in refill American oak casks with the youngest whisky being 7 years old.
Again, from an unknown Islay distillery, the 100 proof leaves the drinker to their own devices as to add a touch of water or not. With the Medium peat and salty-sweet notes, we say its fine just the way it is.
Port Askaig 100 Proof
Nose: Rich, with a meaty smokiness that belies its light colour. Freshly cooked ham and burning logs are joined by a soft coastal character of sea spray and stony rock pools.
Palate: Sharp and stony initially, with an intense minerality that quickly becomes sweet and rich - milky coffee, milk chocolate and spicy cinnamon gobstoppers. The spice grows, adding liquorice and stewed apple with cinnamon, along with heavy charcoal smoke.
Finish: Sweet, spicy and very long. Cinnamon spiced chocolate slowly fades to drying apple skin.
Comment: More powerful than you might expect, with carefully balanced smoke and fruit.
