Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 48.4%
Lovely to see a refill hogshead of Mortlach, especially from an indie bottler of the calibre of Douglas Laing. (Refill)+(Top Distillery)+(Douglas Laing) = Quality.
This 12 year old Mortlach from the 2008 vintage was bottled in 2020 for the Old Particular series at 48.4%, which is not dissimilar to 85 proof in the old money. As it's Mortlach we'd expect a gutsy, earthy spirit with some sweetness and spice notes.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Unsullied and fresh being gently spiced, dulcet with barley sugar backdrop.
Palate: Mixed spices show early, warming to chocolate, ginger, mint and gristy malt.
Finish: A selection of spices show through, all really sweet, combined with moist barley.
