Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Duncan Taylor 70cl / 52.2%
Lately, there's been a few independent bottlings of Mannochmore hitting the market, a previously unusual occurrence given that most of the the distillery's output goes straight into owner Diageo's blends, particularly Haig - very little of which ever sees the UK shelves.
This Mannochmore 12-year-old, though, has a little something extra - it's undergone Duncan Taylor's special Octave secondary maturation. DT have big sherry casks re-coopered into eight smaller casks, known as Octaves, that typically hold about 60-70 litres each.
This Mannochmore 2008 single malt was recasked into one of those Octaves for a relatively short but intense finishing period of six months before being bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.2% in 2020 as a 12-year-old. As the Octaves are so small they typically only yield between 80-100 bottles, so if you fancy one of these Mannochmore Octaves don't hang around.
