Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 59.1%
Linkwood is such a magnificent spirit: clean and fresh, yet with a muscular, steely edge that makes it versatile enough to suit both sherry and bourbon casks, and perfect for extended ageing, often reaching its peak way after its 30th birthday.
Gordon & MacPhail have unearthed another stunner from their Aladdin's cave up in Elgin: a refill American hogshead of Linkwood that has miraculously retained an enormous 59.1% abv into its fifth decade.
If I was a betting man, I'd wager that this Linkwood 1980 40-year-old bottled for Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection will be one of the whiskies of the year.

Tasting Notes
Rich vanilla and fresh autumnal apple aromas combine with notes of polished leather and oak.
Sweet flavours of orange marmalade lead to fried mango and underlying passionfruit.
Chili spice and toasted oak are complemented by subtle aniseed. A medium-bodied and long-lasting finish with lingering hints of grapefruit.
