Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 1 Litre / 43%

A vintage 1 litre bottle of Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Port Wood Finish Highland single malt Scotch whisky, bottled during the 1990s. This early release features the original cream label and was part of Glenmorangie's pioneering range of wood-finished single malts, alongside the Sherry Wood Finish and Madeira Wood Finish.

First introduced in the 1990s, Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish was matured for a minimum of 12 years in traditional oak casks before undergoing a finishing period in casks previously used to mature port wine. This additional maturation was intended to introduce richer fruit flavours and sweetness while retaining Glenmorangie's characteristic light, floral and citrus-led spirit.

Glenmorangie was one of the first Scotch whisky distilleries to popularise wood finishing, helping establish a practice that is now widespread throughout the industry. These original 12-year-old releases predate the later no-age-statement versions and offer an interesting opportunity to explore the distillery's early approach to secondary cask maturation.

Presented in the original 1 litre format at 43% ABV, this 1990s bottling is an increasingly uncommon example of Glenmorangie's early Port Wood Finish.

Stock & condition information

At Whisky-Online, we specialise in sourcing old and rare bottles of whisky from days gone by. We regularly acquire vintage bottles from trusted sources, private collections and other reputable channels, offering our customers a unique selection of historic and hard-to-find spirits.

All pre-owned bottles listed on our website are carefully examined and vetted for authenticity by our team before being offered for sale. If we have any doubts regarding a bottle’s authenticity, provenance or condition, we will not list it for sale.

Please note that pre-owned bottles are not brand new and may show signs of age, storage and handling over many years. Cosmetic imperfections may include, but are not limited to, damaged or stained labels, foxing, rust, tears, capsule wear, packaging deterioration, marks, scratches and other age-related flaws. Customers should carefully review all available images before purchasing.

Bottle dates, bottling periods and production estimates provided by Whisky-Online are based on our experience, research and the information available at the time of listing. Such dates should be treated as informed estimates and guidance only and are not guaranteed.

All pre-owned stock is offered based on the description, images and information available at the time of listing. Whilst our photographs are intended to provide a fair representation of each item, they may not show every imperfection. Customers with specific condition requirements should contact us before ordering to request additional images or information.

Corks, seals & closures

Cork and seal failure are inherent risks associated with bottled spirits. While these issues are more commonly encountered with older and pre-owned bottles, they can also occur in modern, factory-sealed products.

Cork is a natural material and may contain irregularities, air pockets or weaknesses that can affect its integrity over time. As corks age, they may dry out, shrink, become brittle or otherwise deteriorate, increasing the risk of leakage, evaporation and breakage.

To help preserve the condition of the closure, we strongly recommend storing all spirit bottles upright. Unlike wine, prolonged contact between high-strength alcohol and the cork may cause deterioration and increase the risk of failure.

When opening any bottle fitted with a cork stopper, there is always a risk that the cork may break, crumble or otherwise fail, regardless of how carefully the bottle is opened. This risk is particularly pronounced with older bottles. We therefore recommend keeping suitable replacement corks available where appropriate.

The condition and integrity of a cork or seal cannot be fully assessed without opening the bottle. Accordingly, Whisky-Online Ltd cannot guarantee the future performance of any cork, seal or closure. The age of a bottle should not be taken as an indication of the condition of its cork or seal, as deterioration can occur regardless of age, provenance or storage history.

Whisky-Online Ltd accepts no liability for:

  • Cork failure, seal failure or closure failure.
  • Leakage, evaporation, ullage changes or loss of liquid occurring before, during or after transit.
  • Corks breaking, crumbling or otherwise failing during the opening of a bottle.
  • Any damage, loss or reduction in value resulting from cork, seal or closure failure.

By purchasing bottled spirits from Whisky-Online Ltd, you acknowledge and accept these inherent risks.

For further information regarding corks, seals and bottle closures, please refer to our dedicated blog articles available on our website.

If you have any questions regarding a particular bottle, please contact us prior to purchase at info@whisky-online.com and we will be happy to assist.
