Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 54.6%
A 1981 Glenfarclas single malt whisky from the Winter 2017 release of the distillery's Family Cask series.
Glenfarclas 1981 Cask 1606 was a 4th Fill Sherry Butt bottled at the end of 2017 - so the whisky is a 35-year-old or (more likely) 36-year-old - and yielded an impressive 523 bottles at an equally impressive 54.6%.
These long-aged refill cask Glenfarclas whiskies often get overlooked because they aren't dark sherry monsters, which is a terrible pity because they are invariably fantastic showcases of the distillery's magnificent spirit character - particularly when they've had the opportunity for an extra decade or two of tertiary ageing. We'll eat our imaginary hats if this 1981 Glenfarclas isn't a fabulous whisky.
