Description

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Berry Bros & Rudd 70cl / 54.9%

Dufftown's only regular official single malt outing is the somewhat unremarkable Singleton of Dufftown bottling - it's another of those worthy Speyside distilleries that don't get an awful lot of love, principally because the vast majority of their capacity is taken up with supplying solid Speyside single malt for blended Scotches such as Johnnie Walker and Bell's.

This should be a treat, though - a cask strength 12-year-old Dufftown selected by Berry Bros & Rudd for a two year finishing period in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask that will doubtless have added an extra layer of rich dried fruit notes to the flavour profile.

Tasting Notes

This gentle Speysider has spent the final two years of maturation in a fresh ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry butt.

Nose: The nose offers a delicate balance of Speyside’s soft fresh fruits with Jerez’s rich unctuous dried fruits with lashings of spice to boot.

Palate: The full, oily palate brings the sherry influence to the foreshowing raisins and figs before developing into rich baking spices and some mashed banana.

Finish: The spirit character rallies on the finish with grated apple and pear drops appearing. A wonderfully warming dram perfect for an early evening on a cool, crisp day.

Ronnie Cox says:
“Recently expanded to accommodate the success of Diageo’s Singleton expression, this particular cask is an unusual and unexpected treat and would easily raise the underrated profile of this distillery”
