Compass Box Spice Tree originally appeared in 2005, but was quickly banned by the SWA due to its innovative use of new French oak staves that were placed inside the casks to increase oak contact. Not to be deterred, The Spice Tree was reinvented, and soon reappeared after being finished in a new type of custom-made cask with French oak for the heads and American oak for the bodies. An iconic blended malt whisky from Compass Box, in 2024 it was announced that The Spice Tree would be discontinued to make way for new core expressions.
