Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 54.6%
A very exciting 40-year-old Caol Ila 1980 bottled at cask strength without colouring or chill filtration by Douglas Laing for their XOP (Extra Old Particular) range.
This 1980 Caol Ila 40-year-old was bottled in 2021 from Cask DL14963, a refill hogshead cask that yielded 206 bottles at an impressive cask strength of 54.6%. Caol Ila's spirit is so tasty and drinkable at a young age that very few casks make it to twenty years old, let alone forty - this is a rare treat indeed and should be spectacular stuff.
Please note that this XOP Caol Ila 1980 is Strictly Maximum 1 Bottle Per Customer. Duplicate orders will be deleted.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Expect immediately oceanic, West coat of Scotland character, with enticing yet subtle phenols coming through.
Palate: The palate reveals leather, malted barley, spices and a honey-glazed smoked meat quality.
Finish: The finish is exceptional, with more peat smoke, dried citric fruits and oak bonfire embers. Delicious.

Yes, a lovely expression from Ardnmurchan. As young as it is (5yrs old I believe), it tastes twice its maturity!
Very well made, delicious & beautifully complex smells & flavours to savour.
Having been fortunate enough to visit Scotland’s little gem distillery twice in the past ( amongst several others) it soon became my favourite dram. This like all its predecessors is a pleasure to savour and a real treat . The only problem is the self discipline required to make the bottle last long enough and show the respect and gratitude to its makers in producing this and in my humble opinion all others from Scotland’s little gem.
