This looks very special - a cask strength 39-year-old single grain bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for their Private Collection. Somehow this refill bourbon hogshead #92569 from the extinct Caledonian grain distillery (which closed in 1988) survived all the way until 2020 with its spirit at 55.4%, yielding 111 bottles.

It's amazing how Gordon & MacPhail's cavernous warehouses can still be filled with lost treasures like these. A truly historical dram from a distillery we may not see too many more bottlings of - the Caledonian site in Edinburgh has now been redeveloped and aside from the old distillery chimney, casks like these are almost all that remains of what was once Scotland's largest distillery.
