A interesting Bowmore 1996 25-year-old Islay single malt whisky, bottled in 2022 by Douglas Laing for the prestigious XOP Rare Platinum series.

Distilled at Bowmore in 1996, this whisky spent a full quarter of a century maturing in a single refill hogshead before being bottled as Cask DL15624. The cask yielded just 42 hand-filled bottles at its natural cask strength of 52.5%, with no colouring or chill filtration. This is Bottle No. 1 of 42.

Bowmore's spirit combines the distillery's characteristic coastal peat smoke with an underlying fruitiness, and long-aged examples from the 1990s can be particularly rewarding. The use of a refill hogshead here should have allowed plenty of Bowmore's distillery character to remain intact throughout its lengthy maturation.

An exceptionally small-outturn 25-year-old single cask Bowmore from Douglas Laing, and a very tempting prospect at 52.5% cask strength.
