This Blair Athol Distillery Only was a limited edition of 6000 bottles at a hefty 55.8% natural cask strength and, as the name suggests, it was available exclusively to visitors to the distillery shop while stocks lasted. This no-age-statement Blair Athol shows plenty of rich sherry influence and was rumoured at the time to have been assembled from a small batch of 14-year-old to 16-year-old casks. A big, bruising Blair Athol showing rich fruit alongside potent ginger and pepper spice notes.

Complex with subtle dried citrus, raisins as I would usually like in a sherry cask but something (the smoke, grape skins ? from the sherry cask?) unwelcome reminds me of grappa.
