Scotch Whisky

Scotch Whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks. Made using water, yeast and cereals, it can be produced using pot or column stills, with caramel colouring (E150) the only permitted additive.

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made exclusively from malted barley at a single distillery using pot stills. Combining single malts from different distilleries produces Blended Malt Whisky. Scotland's recognised whisky regions are Highland, Lowland, Speyside, Islay and Campbeltown, with the Islands generally grouped within the Highlands.

Grain Whisky is typically produced using wheat, maize or other cereals and distilled in column stills. Combining malt and grain whiskies produces Blended Scotch Whisky, often incorporating whisky from numerous distilleries. Well-known brands include Johnnie Walker, Bell's, Teacher's, Famous Grouse, Chivas Regal and Ballantine's.
