Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice

The Connoisseurs Choice series, launched by Gordon & MacPhail in 1968 under director George “Mr. George” Urquhart, was one of the first branded ranges of independently bottled single malt Scotch whisky. Early black-label releases, some the first from their distilleries, are now highly collectible.

The range evolved through the brown/beige labels of the 1980s, featuring whiskies from lost distilleries such as Glenugie and St. Magdalene, before the famous “Map Label” editions appeared in 1988, including celebrated bottlings from Ardbeg, Port Ellen and Brora.

In 2012, the range adopted natural presentation standards, and in 2018 the Cask Strength series marked its 50th anniversary. Today, over 2,500 Connoisseurs Choice bottlings have been released.
