Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 75cl / 54.4%
One of the legendary cask strength Springbank 1966 single cask bottlings released in the mid to late 1990s now known as the 'Local Barley' series. This Springbank Local Barley is from Cask 480, which was distilled in February 1966 and bottled for the US market 31 years later in February 1997.
The first 1966 Springbank Local Barleys were a trio of sherry casks bottled in 1990. The second wave began in October 1996 with a string of 1966 bourbon cask Springbanks that were bottled a few casks at a time twice or three times a year until the final 1966 vintage bottling in February 2000.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 54.4%, this early bourbon wood Local Barley Springbank 1966 was one of fifteen ex-bourbon sister casks released in 1997 and is a classic of genre, with epic complexity and a remarkably expansive melange of fruit, tobacco, leather and oak with lovely threads of saline and smoke.
