A magnificent old Port Ellen 1982, bottled as a 35-year-old in 2018 by Signatory Vintage to celebrate the independent bottler’s 30th Anniversary.

Distilled on 2nd September 1982, less than a year before Port Ellen fell silent in 1983, this Islay single malt spent 35 years maturing in refill sherry butt #2040. It was bottled on 31st July 2018 at its natural cask strength of 55.1%, with an outturn of 567 individually numbered bottles.

One of the headline releases from Signatory’s 30th Anniversary collection, this is a particularly desirable example of long-aged Port Ellen. The whisky is a true masterpiece, displaying an array of flavours and aromas that are elegant and delicate yet remarkably rich and complex – a superb example of mature spirit from one of Islay’s most celebrated closed distilleries.

Official Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep golden yellow. 
Nose: Rich and immensely beautiful, smoky, tarry and herbaceous. Allowed to breathe it becomes increasingly complex.
Palate: Peaty, and fruity with lots o lemon, pear and bramble before gradually revealing a luscious side of sage.
Finish: This has a long finish full of vanilla, saline and peat with a delicate mouthfeel.
