A very sought-after 1-litre bottle of Lagavulin 1979 Distillers Edition, bottled in 1997.
The Distillers Edition was introduced in 1997 as part of United Distillers' programme of double-matured versions of its Classic Malts, making this an example from the inaugural year of the range. Lagavulin's expression was given a second maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, pairing the distillery's powerful, smoky Islay character with the rich sweetness of PX.
Distilled in 1979 and bottled in 1997, this early release carries the batch reference lgv. 4/463. Presented in the generous 1-litre format, there's considerably more of this superb old Lagavulin to enjoy than in the standard 70cl bottle.
A fascinating bottle from the formative years of United Distillers' wood-finishing programme, combining mature late-1970s Lagavulin with the rich PX influence that would become a hallmark of the Distillers Edition.

Bunnahabhain is my favourite range of unpeated whisky, there are many choices. My initial taste was a little disappointing but the high strength 8 year old whisky gave another choice. I would buy again on reflection.
