Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 40%
A superb old Convalmore 1960 Speyside single malt whisky, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 1996 for their Rare Old range. Distilled in 1960 and bottled 36 years later at 40%, this is a particularly desirable example from one of Scotland's lost distilleries.
Convalmore was established in Dufftown in 1894 and spent most of its working life producing malt whisky for blends, with relatively little appearing as single malt. The distillery was closed by the Distillers Company in 1985, and although the buildings survive today, the production equipment was removed and the site is now used for warehousing.
Gordon & MacPhail were responsible for preserving some remarkable stocks from Convalmore, releasing several vintages over the years. This 1960 Rare Old is among the most impressive, combining more than three and a half decades of maturation with spirit distilled a full 25 years before Convalmore closed. A wonderful piece of Dufftown whisky history and a rare opportunity to experience Convalmore from one of Scotland's great independent bottlers.

Bunnahabhain is my favourite range of unpeated whisky, there are many choices. My initial taste was a little disappointing but the high strength 8 year old whisky gave another choice. I would buy again on reflection.
