Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 57.3%
Tomatin has long been one of the unsung heroes of the highlands, but thankfully in the last few years that's changed a bit with a series of impressive official bottlings and some absolutely terrific casks from indie bottlers raising Tomatin's profile and stature among whisky fans.
As well as some well-regarded official bottlings from this particular vintage there've been quite a few indie 1988 Tomatins around in the last few years and many of them have been very very good, so it's great to see another one from G&M.
This Tomatin 1988 has been bottled by Gordon & Macphail for their Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength series in 2021 as a 31-year-old from a refill hogshead that yielded 173 bottles at a tantalising 57.3%. The stars are aligned for this one, it should be absolutely fantastic - Tomatin 1988 may not have the reputation of the exquisite 1976 vintage yet but who knows what the next few years will bring from this vintage.

Yes, a lovely expression from Ardnmurchan. As young as it is (5yrs old I believe), it tastes twice its maturity!
Very well made, delicious & beautifully complex smells & flavours to savour.
Having been fortunate enough to visit Scotland’s little gem distillery twice in the past ( amongst several others) it soon became my favourite dram. This like all its predecessors is a pleasure to savour and a real treat . The only problem is the self discipline required to make the bottle last long enough and show the respect and gratitude to its makers in producing this and in my humble opinion all others from Scotland’s little gem.
