Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 75cl / 60%
An extremely rare semi-official 13-year-old Lagavulin from the early 1990s, only given to associates of 'The Syndicate', the famously anonymous group of very well-connected investors who picked up an outstanding batch of casks of Islay single malts a few decades ago and have been bottling them to great acclaim ever since.
This Lagavulin 13-year-old, we are reliably informed, was from the same batch of 1979 Lagavulin casks as the famous later bottlings. This is one of the earliest Syndicate Lagavulins and, due to the age, it must date from around 1992-3, which has caused some confusion due to the bottle being 75cl rather than 70cl. The casks were stored and bottled at Bruichladdich, and we're guessing that old stock of 75cl bottles were used as this was a private bottling.
