Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 46%
Introduced in winter 2022, Kilchoman Casado was made by taking 38 casks of 6-year-old bourbon-matured Kilchoman and marrying them in two large vats that previously held Portuguese red wine. Casado, incidentally, is a Portuguese word meaning 'married'.
Kilchoman Casado was made with Kilchoman's standard 50ppm heavily-peated spirit distilled in 2014 and was bottled at 46% without colouring or chill filtration. Portuguese red wine is pretty robust, so despite large vats giving less wood contact than individual wine casks there's a marked cooked red fruit character alongside Kilchoman's trademark dry, peatsmoke bonfire notes.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: An opening note of intense campfire smoke balanced with ripe summer stone fruits; peach, plum and cherry. Deep notes of marzipan become the focus combined with layered maritime notes.
Palate: Pepper and spice on the first taste. Dry, salty peat smoke sits on the palate, yet fruit notes of apricot and lemon find their way through.
Finish: A long finish which brings a hot, spicy character. Stewed, cooked fruit notes bring a sweet-jam profile providing an on-going sweetness that the classic Kilchoman smoke balances beautifully.
