Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Berry Bros & Rudd 70cl / 46%
A small batch 12-year-old Caol Ila 2010 bottled at 46% by our tweed-waistcoated chums at Berry Bros & Rudd for their Summer 2022 Releases.
There's been a wonderfully rich seam of Caol Ilas distilled between 2009-2012 flooding on to the market in recent years, and the 2010 vintage hogsheads are right up there with the best of them.
Despite the reassuringly posh bottle and the guaranteed quality that anything involving both Berry Bros and Caol Ila entails, this 2010 Caol Ila 12-year-old Small Batch from BBR still looks like great value.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose is initially deceptively gentle, offering icing sugar and a slight earthy smoke, though time in the glass crescendos the coastal peat showing muscular phenolic character.
Palate: The palate gives more notes of peat smoke along with damp wool, icing sugar, slight floral notes, and more peat smoke!
Finish: The finish is unmistakably coastal, fading slowly with flavours of kippers, tar and yet more smoke.
Doug McIvor Says
“I often find a Caol Ila has a pleasing balance of peat smoke, citrus and a broader sweeter character, and this Small Batch demonstrates it perfectly. One to enjoy on a warm summer’s night around the embers of a beach bonfire, preferably somewhere along the West Coast.”
