Blended Malt Whisky
Bottled By: Bimber Distillery 70cl / 46.3%
An interesting one here - released at the tail end of 2021, Apogee XII is a 12-year-old blended malt whisky by Bimber distillery - but of course, as Apogee is a 12-year-old it definitely doesn't have any Bimber whisky in it.
For Bimber's Apogee XII, the enterprising Londoners have concocted a tasty vatting of malt whisky from various distilleries, and have then married/finished the resulting assemblage in ex-Bimber casks before bottling at a tempting 46.3%.
Apogee is a good, underused word that means the highpoint, or the furthest point from the centre in an orbit. It's also great to see the Pure Malt term being used again, which we suppose is permitted on the label as, being bottled outside of Scotland, the contents can't be labelled as Scotch whisky - indeed, the label and bottle have a hint of the East about them, as fans of Suntory Hibiki will already have noticed.

Nose: Spiced pears and oven-baked apricot flans are sweetened by candy necklaces and scented with rosewater, nutmeg and powdered ginger.
Palate: Syrupy orchard and stone fruits provide a bright and fresh mouthfeel supported by lightly charred oak, gentle white pepper and cooling mint.
Finish: Lingering ripe and sweet fruits alongside sympathetic aromatic oak.
