This 1996 Benrinnes, aged for 26 years, was drawn from two hogshead casks with a total of 527 bottles at a remarkably high 53.5% natural cask strength. Benrinnes' sturdy, gutsy spirit is more common from sherry casks, so this hogshead-matured edition will be a treat.

Complex with subtle dried citrus, raisins as I would usually like in a sherry cask but something (the smoke, grape skins ? from the sherry cask?) unwelcome reminds me of grappa.
