Glenturret's heavily peated malt Ruadh Maor is getting older and whisky fans should be excited. This 11-year-old Ruadh Maor was distilled in 2011 and bottled without colouring or chill filtration by Morrison Distillers for their Carn Mor Strictly Limited range in 2022.
This Carn Mor 2011 Ruadh Maor was a micro-batch of 11-year-old refill sherry hogsheads that yielded 1473 bottles at 47.5%. Ruadh Maor makes up only a small proportion of Glenturret's output, which itself is less than 350,000 litres per annum, so it's always a good idea to grab it on sight if you're a fan.

Notes of fresh barley with sweetness and gentle peat-smoke following on the palate.
Into the Highlands with this one, and it is top notch. A peated highland whisky matured in a refill sherry hogshead by Morrison - sounds like a recipe for success! And it sure is, this is a dram with a remarkable range of taste characteristics, a whiff of peppery peat smoke, the richness of sherried fruit, and they work together in perfect harmony here. The finish lasts for a long time, with tastes lasting a good 30 minutes plus. Another excellent bottling from this solid Carn Mor range, highly recommended.

If you like your Whisky matured in a sherry cask then you will not be disappointed with this one, the flavours transferred from the Oloroso butts are unmistakably sherry, with a mixture of fruitiness coming through once you’ve added a slug of water, in my opinion at this cask strength you need need a good measure of H2O to really appreciate this very fine reasonably priced Whisky.
