Glenturret

Glenturret in the Highlands is a whisky distillery that has to be forgiven for its nonsense marketing claims about being the oldest distillery in Scotland. Let's be clear, it was built in 1958/9 on the site of the old Thurot / Hosh distillery. That distillery is claimed to have been founded in 1763 but was completely dismantled for nearly four decades before Glenturret was built. But nevertheless, it’s the whisky that matters, and Glenturret is often a fine dram.

The modern Glenturret distillery changed hands from Remy Cointreau to Highland Distillers in 1990, and was then bought by Edrington and William Grant & Sons in 1999. Glenturret was subsequently anointed as the home of Edrington's Famous Grouse blended whisky from 2002 until the distillery was sold to French crystal company Lalique in 2019.
