Lowland Single Grain Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 45.0%
A remarkable old single grain from the long-closed Garnheath distillery, distilled in February 1974 and bottled by Douglas Laing in February 2023 for their prestigious XOP Black Series.
Garnheath was established in 1965 as the grain whisky component of Inver House Distillers’ vast Moffat complex at Airdrie, alongside the Glen Flagler and Killyloch malt distilleries. Equipped with five continuous stills, Garnheath was capable of producing both grain whisky and neutral spirit on a very large scale. The distillery had a relatively short life, closing in 1986, and no official Garnheath single grain bottlings were released during its lifetime.
This 1974 Garnheath was matured in a single refill barrel, cask DL17171, and bottled at natural cask strength of 45.1% without colouring or chill filtration. Just 104 bottles were produced, with each label individually signed by Fred Laing and Cara Laing.
An exceptionally mature example from one of Scotland's lost grain distilleries and a particularly limited release from Douglas Laing's premium XOP Black Series.
Please Note: This bottle is a part of a large batch of bin-ends we recently picked up at a great price, enabling us to pass on savings to our customers. However, only one or two bottles of each product were included in the parcel - so when they’re gone they’re gone! Please note that due to the size and nature of this batch of stock, some labels and boxes may show signs of wear.

Aroma has subtle hints of sherry, vanilla and smoke. This is a dark, smooth and oily whisky - I noticed flavours of dark chocolate, tar, peat and salt. The real character comes through in the aftertaste - lingering peat and salt. Unmistakably Islay, and superb!
Bunnahabhain is my favourite range of unpeated whisky, there are many choices. My initial taste was a little disappointing but the high strength 8 year old whisky gave another choice. I would buy again on reflection.
