Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Elixir Distillers 70cl / 49.1%
A 40-year-old Caol Ila bottled by Elixir Distillers for their prestige Director's Special series, the pinnacle of The Single Malts of Scotland range.
Caol Ila is one of those blessed whiskies that tastes great even when it's very young, and between the distillery's blending commitments and the natural desire of indie bottlers to make money, very little Caol Ila makes it past 25 years of age - so to find a 40-year-old in this day and age is truly special.
This Director's Special 40-year-old Caol Ila has been bottled at a tantalising 49.1% and we can see this being a future classic - let's not forget that early 1980s Caol Ila was so good that owners United Distillers reckoned they wouldn't need Port Ellen any more...

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Peach iced tea on a hot summer's day, surrounded by vines of honeysuckle. A hint of bonfire in the distance, carried on the breeze.
Palate: A whisper of elegant smoke emerges on the palate but allows juicy tropical fruit to take centre stage.
Finish: This whisky continues to develop, as a long, complex finish. The fruit and smoke give way to moreish minerality and leave you with fresh peppermint.
