One of Bunnahabhain's flagship bottlings, the distillery's 18-year-old is richly-sherried without being cloying or over-powered. This whisky carries its 46.3% strength lightly while still packing plenty of sweet sherry flavours and the faintest whisper of earthy peat. A very elegant dram.
It's amazing to think that it's now well over a decade since Bunnahabhain (and sister distilleries Deanston and Tobermory) dropped chill filtration and colouring and upped the strength of their official bottlings to 46.3%. How the brand's fortunes have improved since then, with Malt Whisky Yearbook reporting a 160% increase in sales in the first ten years after the switch. It really shows the value of listening to your customers.
You just can't beat a good Bunna! This 18yr old is delicious & I shall savour every drop of each dram.
However, with prices having shot up as they have, this will be the preciously last expensive bottle I will buy, not just from Bunnahabain, but from any distillery or bottler!
I will not be suckered in with the marketing nonsense, waffle and hype that sadly now pervades the Scotch whisky industry.

Balmenach was a new Distillery to me that is probably better known these days for it's Gin production. I've tried quite a few of the SV 100 Proof offerings and have yet to be disappointed. I have found that Balmenach Whisky isn't that easy to get hold of so this was a good opportunity to try it and I was nicely impressed. If you like sherry bombs you'll probably like this one.
