Description

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
 Distillery Bottling 1 Litre / 43%

A classic 1-litre bottling of Balvenie's former flagship Founder's Reserve, produced during the 1980s. Bottled at 43% ABV and presented in Balvenie's distinctive cognac-shaped bottle, this release helped establish the distillery's reputation for approachable yet characterful Speyside single malt at a time when single malt whisky was only beginning to gain widespread international recognition.

This 1980s bottling predates the later age-stated Founder's Reserve releases, carrying no age statement on the label. It represents one of the earliest versions of the expression that would later evolve into Balvenie's well-known 10 Year Old Founder's Reserve, making it an important piece of the distillery's history.

Named in honour of William Grant, the founder of William Grant & Sons, Founder's Reserve was matured primarily in traditional oak casks to showcase Balvenie's signature honeyed character, gentle orchard fruits and soft vanilla sweetness. Produced for export markets, this 1-litre bottling is now increasingly difficult to find, particularly in its larger format. The elegant cognac-shaped bottle has become one of the most recognisable and sought-after designs among collectors of vintage Balvenie releases.

Discontinued in 2009 and ultimately succeeded by newer expressions such as DoubleWood 12 Year Old, these original Founder's Reserve bottlings remain highly collectible among enthusiasts of vintage official Balvenie releases and classic whisky from the distillery's golden era.
