Spirit of Yorkshire's Filey Bay STR Red Wine Cask English single malt whisky was assimilated into the English distillery's core range portfolio late in 2025 after a series of successful small batch releases. This updated core range edition has had its name tweaked from STR Finish to STR Red Wine Cask and its bottling strength has been upped from the previous 46% to a feisty 47.3%.

STR is an acronym referring to Shaving, Toasting, Recharring - a modern technique of cask rejuvenation whose widespread adoption (particularly by the wave of new distilleries) is credited to the late, great whisky consultant Dr. Jim Swan.

Bottled without colouring or chill filtration, Filey Bay STR Red Wine Cask is assembled from whiskies that have been either finished or full term matured in STR red wine casks that previously held Rioja. The updated Filey Bay STR Red Wine Cask batches undergo a fractional blending process using a solera-style system wherein half of each batch is retained and returned to the STR casks before becoming the start of the next batch - ensuring both consistency and increasing complexity.
