A bottle of J.A. Mitchell's Campbeltown Loch blended malt whisky. This was the famous 2021 release of Campbeltown Loch, which appeared after a long hiatus following the previous release of Campbeltown Loch 21-year-old back in 2013.
The 2021 edition of Campbeltown Loch caused quite a stir on release, as several very significant changes had been made to the whisky. Where the brand was formerly a blended Scotch containing grain whisky as well as single malts, and was usually bottled between 21 and 30 years old, the 2021 batch (and every subsequent release) was a blended malt whisky containing all five Campbeltown malts - Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn from Springbank, plus Glengyle's Kilkerran malt and finally Glen Scotia.
The other notable differences characterising the post 2021 batches were the increase in strength from 40% to 46%, which was obviously great news, and the whisky's lack of an age statement. On the face of it, this latter change was a negative for many fans, but it came with the not inconsiderable silver lining of a significantly reduced RRP, though the whisky proved so popular that prices on the secondary market briefly surged into three figures.
The new versions of Campbeltown Loch are assembled by Mitchell's at Springbank from a mix of sherry and bourbon casks and have continued to appear every year since 2021, with demand now sufficient to warrant multiple batches each year. No information on malt proportions has ever been officially released, and naturally there is significant batch variation, but this original 2021 edition was rumoured to have been built around a core of 60% Glen Scotia.

The Knockando 15 is an amazing dram, full of surprises. On the nose it’s quite rich and sherried, a bit raisiny, with a hint of dark chocolate.
The taste is yet more sherries. Rich, sweet nutty flavours. Lots of flavour development, with a surprising faint smokiness which I can only presume comes from the peaty waters in the Knockando region. A finish of Aniseed sherry. Faint, fragrant smokiness. A very Soothing dram. Yet another fantastic whisky from Signatory Vintage.
This is the third time I have had Cameronbridge, previous bottles been 36/40 yearsold, this is avery good dram I get cream soda on the nose, and it not overwhelming at 57.1, get a bottle while you can.
