Highland Single Grain Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 49.2%
A superb old single grain whisky from Invergordon, distilled in May 1993 and bottled by Douglas Laing in March 2024 for their prestigious Xtra Old Particular Black series.
Invergordon is one of Scotland’s best-known grain distilleries, situated in the northern Highlands near the Cromarty Firth. Established in 1959, the distillery uses continuous column stills to produce a light, clean grain spirit that develops considerable richness and complexity with extended maturation.
This 30-year-old Invergordon was matured in a single refill barrel, Cask DL18790, and yielded just 72 bottles at a natural cask strength of 49.2%. As with Douglas Laing's XOP releases, it was bottled without colouring or chill-filtration.
The producer's tasting notes describe antique meeting sugar, cream and butter, then barley sugar, mixed cereals, vanilla toffee and milky coffee, plus soft gentle spices and ripe fruit before a long, lingering finish.
A very small outturn of exceptionally well-aged Invergordon, showcasing the rich, sweet and creamy character that long maturation can bring to mature grain whisky.
Please Note: This bottle is a part of a large batch of bin-ends we recently picked up at a great price, enabling us to pass on savings to our customers. However, only one or two bottles of each product were included in the parcel - so when they’re gone they’re gone! Please note that due to the size and nature of this batch of stock, some labels and boxes may show signs of wear.

Aroma has subtle hints of sherry, vanilla and smoke. This is a dark, smooth and oily whisky - I noticed flavours of dark chocolate, tar, peat and salt. The real character comes through in the aftertaste - lingering peat and salt. Unmistakably Islay, and superb!
Bunnahabhain is my favourite range of unpeated whisky, there are many choices. My initial taste was a little disappointing but the high strength 8 year old whisky gave another choice. I would buy again on reflection.
