Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 59.6%
The 2023 release of Octomore comprises a trio of 5-year-old Octomore whiskies distilled in 2017 and matured in different variations of cask types. This is Octomore 14.1, which has been matured 100% in American whiskey casks, and serves as a base point for comparisons among the three releases.
Octomore 14.1 was distilled in 2017 from Scots-grown Concerto barley peated to 128.9ppm and has been bottled without colouring or chill filtration at a mighty cask strength of 59.6%. This will be another epic dram for the peatheads.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Colour: Light Amber
Nose: Smoked vanilla, sweet caramel, and toffee notes open on the nose, with sooty smoke balanced with delicate coconut and flaked almonds. There is an unmistakable earthy smokiness and a hint of citrus, with lemon meringue pie cutting through rich barbeque pork.
Palate: Bright citrus, smoke and a distinct minerality come through on the palate, followed by charred oak and beach bonfire embers. Toffee and creamy vanilla are balanced with the earthy smoke, with bright notes of pear, gooseberry fool and green apple simultaneously adding brightness and depth. Roasted coffee, hints of clove and nutmeg begin to come to the fore, with a gentle hint of heather honey.
Finish: Butterscotch and vanilla are balanced with Octomore’s signature earthy peat smoke and a hint of salt spray, with burnt heather and gorse flowers settling on the finish.

I bought this for a friend who tells me it’s a "Fabulous Whisky” with some truly amazing flavours that seem to linger for quite a while. He did say that he will be very sorry to drink the last drop.
