Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 75cl / 40%
An old bottle of Glenlivet 1948 Speyside single malt whisky bottled by Elgin independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail at some point in the 1980s.
These late 1940s Glenlivet single malts had calmed down slightly on the peat front after the privations of the immediate postwar period, but all the oily, fruity complexity was still singing beautifully. This is a good chance to try this classic old style of whisky at a slightly younger age, and of course it contrasts beautifully with the much longer-aged 1940s Glenlivets released by G&M this century.
This is still an astonishingly old school example of whisky making, a style completely extinct in the world today sadly.
