Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Private Bottling 70cl / 56.0%
A rare and intriguing private bottling of Ardbeg. This 1994 Ardbeg 23-year-old came from a single privately owned sherry hogshead and was bottled in 2017 at its natural cask strength of 56.0%.
Ardbeg from these pre-Glenmorangie 1990s vintages is rare as the distillery was almost abandoned, only operated for a few weeks a year by the crew from its then Allied Distillers stablemate Laphroaig. However, the few examples that have emerged from this era have been generally excellent, showing a rather different, almost more historical Ardbeg character than the years immediately before and after it. This is an excellent dram.

Great value bottle from Signatory - full of rich Madeira notes and slight edgy funk of the distillate come together beautifully! Takes water very well.
It’s a good flavour similar to the secret appetite (M) but with even more flavour. You have to add a bit of water to get it to 50% and the flavour is released in full.
