A splendid old Glenburgie from Douglas Laing’s premium Xtra Old Particular (XOP) range, distilled in September 1997 and bottled in July 2023 at 25 years old.

This 1997 Glenburgie was matured in a single refill hogshead, cask DL17850, which yielded just 254 hand-filled bottles at a natural cask strength of 41%. As with the rest of the XOP range, the whisky was bottled without colouring or chill filtration.

Glenburgie is a highly regarded Speyside distillery whose whisky has traditionally been an important component of Ballantine’s blends, meaning official single malt releases have historically been relatively scarce. Independent bottlings such as this are therefore an excellent opportunity to explore the distillery’s elegant, fruity character at a substantial age.

Douglas Laing's tasting notes:
Dried apricots and milk chocolate on the nose initially, then comes floral fruit blossom and barley. Vanilla and orchard fruits on the palate give way to candied ginger and gentle spice. The finish brings subtle oak, peaches in syrup and toasted oats.
