Not to be confused with 2021's R-01 release, Isle of Raasay's R-01.1 whisky is the spiritual successor to that superb 3-year-old island single malt whisky, having been assembled from both unpeated and peated barley spirits (the latter having 48-52ppm before distillation), with both spirit styles matured separately in a mix of ex-rye whiskey, virgin Chinkapin oak and first fill Bordeaux red wine casks.
Raasay distillery's long fermentations (up to 120 hours) and this complex mix of spirit and cask types give Isle of Raasay R-01.1 an almost indecent amount of complexity for a three-year-old whisky.
