An old 1-litre bottle of Bowmore Surf Islay single malt whisky created for the travel retail market. This is a relatively early edition, dating from no later than around 2005/06.
Bowmore Surf first appeared around the turn of the millennium and became a long-running duty-free expression, remaining part of Bowmore’s travel retail offering through several packaging and range changes before eventually disappearing around 2013.
Bottled at 40%, Surf was positioned as an approachable introduction to Bowmore and the Islay style, offering the distillery’s characteristic combination of gentle peat smoke, coastal character and fruit in an easy-drinking format. The generous one-litre bottle also made it particularly well suited to the duty-free market.
A great example of an earlier Bowmore travel retail bottling from an era when Surf was a familiar sight on airport shelves.

Bunnahabhain is my favourite range of unpeated whisky, there are many choices. My initial taste was a little disappointing but the high strength 8 year old whisky gave another choice. I would buy again on reflection.
