Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers 70cl / 46%

A no-age-statement secret Islay single malt, Mac-Talla Terra has been sourced and bottled by Islay royalty Morrison Distillers (the former owners of Bowmore) and consists of ex-bourbon casks of youngish smoky Islay single malt whisky bottled at a good drinking strength of 46% without colouring or chill filtration.

Morrison Distillers' Carn Mor series has been on a hot streak of late, so we're very excited to have some of their great value Islay malt on our shelves, whether it's a Bowmore or not (we're guessing probably not, getting a more northeasterly vibe).

An excellent peated Islay dram

I enjoyed a dram of this during the Morrison tasting a few weeks ago, and took the opportunity to purchase a bottle. It is an excellent peat smoke-laden whisky with a remarkable taste profile with smoke, peat tang and a rather fruity underlying taste profile in the finish. I have enjoyed peated whiskies from Lagavulin and Bruichladdich and this is as good as those. I can't quite pin down which distillery this is from, the "north-east vibe" stated in the notes suggests two distilleries. It is not as phenolic/TCP-tasting as the Coal Ila I once tried, therefore suggesting potentially a peated Bunnahabhain. Irrespective of who distilled it, at £43 this is terrific bang-for-buck for any peated whisky fan.
