Lowland Single Grain Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 40.6%
A magnificent old Carsebridge 1982 single grain whisky, bottled in 2023 as a 40-year-old for Douglas Laing’s prestigious Xtra Old Particular Black series.
Carsebridge was one of Scotland’s great grain distilleries, established in Alloa in the late 18th century and converted from malt to grain whisky production during the 19th century. The distillery eventually became part of the Distillers Company and grew into a major producer before closing permanently in 1983. Much of the site was subsequently demolished, making surviving mature stocks increasingly precious.
This remarkable Carsebridge was distilled in 1982, during the distillery’s final years of production, and matured for four decades in a refill hogshead. Bottled from single cask DL17782 in 2023 at a natural cask strength of 40.6%, it yielded just 194 bottles, with no colouring or chill filtration.
A superb example of long-aged grain whisky from one of Scotland’s most celebrated lost distilleries, and an impressive addition to Douglas Laing’s top-tier XOP Black range.
Please Note: This bottle is a part of a large batch of bin-ends we recently picked up at a great price, enabling us to pass on savings to our customers. However, only one or two bottles of each product were included in the parcel - so when they’re gone they’re gone! Please note that due to the size and nature of this batch of stock, some labels and boxes may show signs of wear.

Aroma has subtle hints of sherry, vanilla and smoke. This is a dark, smooth and oily whisky - I noticed flavours of dark chocolate, tar, peat and salt. The real character comes through in the aftertaste - lingering peat and salt. Unmistakably Islay, and superb!
Bunnahabhain is my favourite range of unpeated whisky, there are many choices. My initial taste was a little disappointing but the high strength 8 year old whisky gave another choice. I would buy again on reflection.
