Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 45%
A very special old 35-year-old Caol Ila 1969, bottled at 45% from a pair of refill sherry hogsheads by Gordon & MacPhail for their Private Collection range in 2004. A magnificent interplay of peat, sherry and old oak flavours.
The Caol Ila distillery in 1969 was very different from the enormous distilling plant we know and love today. Prior to 1972, when the old distillery was pulled down and rebuilt, Caol Ila had only two stills - both direct-fired with worm tub condensers - and distilled their own floor-malted barley. We hear the term 'liquid history' a lot, but this 1969 Caol Ila 35-year-old is the genuine article.

Great value bottle from Signatory - full of rich Madeira notes and slight edgy funk of the distillate come together beautifully! Takes water very well.
It’s a good flavour similar to the secret appetite (M) but with even more flavour. You have to add a bit of water to get it to 50% and the flavour is released in full.
