Kilchoman was the first new distillery to be built on Islay in over 100 years when it was founded in 2005. Kilchoman is an independent, family-run farm distillery and the commitment to quality and small scale production shown by owner Anthony Wills and his family struck a chord with whisky fans, ensuring plenty of hype and an ever-growing fanbase.

The interest and goodwill shown by whisky fans from the beginning of Kilchoman's journey led to a first expansion at the distillery in 2007, two years before its first single malt whisky was released in 2009. Another major overhaul was to follow in 2019 with the addition of two new stills, bringing the distillery capacity to just under 500,000 litres, and a further two new stills and nine washbacks are to be added in 2025 which should bring Kilchoman's potential capacity to just under 1 million litres per annum, around twenty times the distillery's original output in its first years of operation.
