Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Elgin in 1895 as a grocer and wine and spirits merchant, and today are one of the oldest and most important bottlers of single malt whisky in Scotland. The firm began the pioneering practice of bottling single malt whiskies under license from distilleries and selling them through their shop and wholesale.

As far back as the 1960s, Gordon & MacPhail were the first to offer higher strength (100 proof) bottlings on a regular basis, and were among the first companies to launch a proper independent bottling range in the form of the Connoisseur’s Choice series in 1968. Later independent bottling ranges included the CASK series, the Speymalt range of Macallan single malts, the Private Collection and the Old & Rare series.

Gordon & MacPhail have bottled most of the oldest single malt whiskies ever released, including the 80-year-old Glenlivet 1940 released in 2020 as part of their extraordinary G&M Generations series, and an 85-year-old Glenlivet 1940 in 2025.
