Daftmill is one of the most interesting of the new wave of independent Scottish whisky distilleries, and was among the earliest of the 21st-century newcomers to begin producing single malt whisky.

Located on the Cuthbert family’s farm in Fife, Daftmill Distillery began production in 2005 under owner and distiller Francis Cuthbert. Despite growing interest from whisky enthusiasts, Cuthbert remained famously tight-lipped about when Daftmill whisky would eventually be released, preferring to allow the spirit to mature rather than committing to a launch date.

For well over a decade, reliable news about Daftmill single malt was remarkably scarce, only adding to the fascination surrounding the distillery. The first Daftmill whisky was finally released in 2018, thirteen years after distillation began, and its small-scale production and limited releases have since made Daftmill one of the most sought-after modern Lowland single malts.
